About this work
An oil sketch shows a broad green meadow in an alpine valley, bordered by dark forested slopes on the left and a jagged, sunlit mountain range in the background. Small farm buildings and a village sit along the valley floor beneath a pale sky. The work is attributed to Frederic Edwin Church, dated 1860, and is held by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
