About this work
A pencil drawing on pale paper shows a tall evergreen tree with a slender trunk, sparse lower branches, and feathery foliage clustered toward the crown. The sketch is lightly shaded and includes an inscription at right.
Botanical sketch showing an isolated view of an evergreen tree with a forked trunk in Catskill, New York. The tree rises along the composition's central vertical axis. Generally speaking, its branches are evenly spaced as they go up. Verso: Landscape sketch showing a loosely rendered view of a rudimentary wooden bridge crossing a stream in Catskill, New York. In the foreground at lower left, the plank bridge extends obliquely to the left as it spans the stream below, which curves around a group of trees at right. Trees and leaves throughout are loosely articulated.
