About this work
A sketch in graphite and white heightening on tan paper shows a cloudy sky above a low line of trees and a wooded ridge. The clouds are rendered in pale, broken strokes that catch light against darker shaded areas. This drawing by Frederic Edwin Church, dated 1850, is held by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
