About this work

An etched print shows Jupiter descending as a shower of gold coins onto the reclining Danaë on a bed, while an attendant catches the falling gold. A caption in French below the scene describes Jupiter's love for Danaë, daughter of Acrisius, king of Argos, who had confined her in a bronze tower.
