A watercolor drawing shows an elderly bearded man with spectacles reclining on a couch, his head propped on one hand and a white bandaged foot visible at left. Loose brown and grey washes render the dim interior and the figure's dark garment. Jozef Israëls created this self-portrait with a sick foot in 1898, held by the Rijksmuseum.
