About this work
Two seated male figures are rendered in colored crayon and wash on cream paper. The left figure wears a blue cap, red scarf, yellow coat and dark trousers, while the right figure wears a grey wide-brimmed hat, grey vest and patterned yellow costume in the Louis XIII style. The sheet bears the inscriptions "Un auvergnat (1er acte)" and "au Bal de l'Opéra", and is attributed to Charles Bétout, dated 1922, in the Maison de Balzac, Paris.
