About this work
An etching titled Andromeda by François Boucher, dated 1734, shows a nude woman chained to a rock at the edge of turbulent waves. A sea monster rises from the water toward her while a winged figure with a shield appears in the clouds above. The pen and fine line hatching render the rocks, sea, and drapery.
