About this work
A two-panel political caricature titled History repeats itself, by Louis Dalrymple, dated 1896. The left panel shows a figure in a cowboy hat and striped trousers with a 16 to 1 sash, holding a scroll denouncing federal interference, standing on a platform labeled Silver Syndicate. The right panel, labeled 1861, shows two bearded men in period dress, one holding a scroll with similar wording, beside a burning fort and soldiers under a flag.
