About this work
A color print titled The diversions of high society by Albert Levering, dated 1905, shows a lavishly decorated ballroom crowded with men in black evening dress and women in richly colored gowns and pearl necklaces. Mythological murals line the arched ceiling, a musicians' gallery overlooks the floor, and a uniformed officer stands near a sign reading Police Telephone.
