About this work
Two white egrets stand in shallow water beside tall dark reeds, one bird turned away and the other lowering its long beak toward the surface. The muted grey background and soft horizontal ripples create a quiet, atmospheric scene. This print by Ohara Koson, dated 1900 to 1930, is a Japanese woodblock print in the Portland museum's collection.
