About this work
This engraved print shows a dramatic biblical scene in which a crowd of figures is swallowed by a crack opening in rocky ground, while Moses and another leader stand at the edge pointing upward beneath a storm of lightning. A tabernacle-like tent and a plume of smoke rise against distant mountains. The work is titled Les Murmurateurs engloutis à la voix de Moïse, after Julien Michel Gue, engraved by Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet, and dated 1841.
