About this work
A hand-colored anatomical plate from a late nineteenth-century medical text shows several views of the heart, including the mitral valve and its orifice, labeled with lettered references. The figures depict thickened, scarred tissue and narrowed openings in the valve and the left ventricle, with pinned flaps of tissue displayed to reveal the internal structures.
