About this work
A hand-colored lithograph plate titled Insekten, Meikever No. 9, by Hendrik Jan van Lummel, dated 1841. A large brown cockchafer beetle with feathery antennae rests on a teal-green leaf above three depictions of its development: curled white grubs, a larger grub, and a cluster of small oval eggs. The plate is a scientific illustration of the insect's life stages, published in the Netherlands.
