About this work
This hand-coloured lithographic plate shows the machinery of a gas works, including retort furnaces, a condenser of pipes, a purifier, a rotary gas meter, and a large gasholder suspended on a pulley frame. The title is printed beneath the plate as Gasfabriek en Gasmeter, and the work is attributed to Hendrik Jan van Lummel, dated 1841.
