About this work
A hand-colored lithograph titled Bier, Wijn, created by Hendrik Jan van Lummel in 1841, shows a stoneware beer jug with a handle, a dark green wine bottle with a red-topped stopper, a faceted tumbler of beer, and a stemmed glass of red wine arranged on a light tabletop. The plate is labeled Plantenrijk 16 and carries the publisher line for Kemink & Zoon in Utrecht, with the lithographer credit for W.J. Ltjs. v. Bueren. The soft shading and cast shadows give the objects volume against a cream background.
