About this work
A poster-style print from 1905 by Gertrud Caspari titled The Red Man in the Forest. Two winged fairy children with flower crowns stand on a reddish forest floor between tree trunks and small mushrooms, while a red cloaked figure with a bird-like head holds a walking stick and walks toward them from the right. The flat outlines and muted olive, orange and red palette give the scene a decorative, Art Nouveau character.
