About this work
A colour lithographic print shows Roman legionaries and mounted officers on a riverbank, with a stone arch and a wooden bridge crossing a river toward a fortified town. Soldiers in armour and plumed helmets stand in the foreground beside an eagle standard, while men roll barrels near boats ferrying troops across the water under a heavy, cloudy sky.
