About this work
An ink drawing shows a uniformed man standing in an open doorway with his hands raised and his mouth open in alarm. The door swings toward the viewer, and strong hatched shadows fill the dark room behind him. The sheet is signed with a monogram at lower right and bears the handwritten caption "Jacob" below, dated 1898 and attributed to Hendrik Maarten Krabbé.
