About this work
A hand-coloured pen and watercolour caricature by Thomas Rowlandson, dated 1801, titled College Jockies, the Landlord Sweating for his Cattle. Riders crowd a street before a Gothic-style building, while a distressed landlord in a brown coat grips his hands before a white horse and a brown horse led by a mustached jockey. A sign reading Licensed to Saddle Horses, Handsome Coaches and Hearses by Peter Loseleather hangs above the scene.
