About this work

This etched caricature is split into two scenes with the heading 'Employment during Recess' and the captions 'Le-Gagne-Petit' and 'Poisson-Sale.' On the left a man in a cap bends over a wheelbarrow stamped with the words 'Collection of Ideas,' while on the right a hawker with a tricorn hat carries fish on a pole past placards referring to Warren Hastings. The print was published by H. Humphrey, drawn by John Boyne, and dated November 25, 1786.
