About this work

A pen and ink drawing by William Henry Walker, dated 1913, shows a line of men of varied dress and class each holding a paper marked BALLOT, approaching a ballot box at the left. The caricatured figures, including a top-hatted man, a cowboy, and a man with a pipe, are drawn with dense hatching on a cream ground. The title, Woman is not fit for the ballot, is a satirical reference to the suffrage debate of the period.
