About this work
A pen-and-ink drawing shows a small figure aiming a cannon from a fort labeled Independence, with a banner reading Life flying above. Across the field, a line of armored knights on horseback charges forward, carrying pennants bearing the names of American newspapers and magazines such as Harper's, the New York Herald and The American Magazine. The work is William Henry Walker's 1911 print, titled Will it come to this.
