About this work
A pencil drawing shows Uncle Sam in a star-patterned jersey and striped sleeves, running forward while clutching a globe like a football. Caricatured opponents with exaggerated faces and bodies pursue him across a snowy field with bare trees on the horizon. The masthead reads LIFE, with the label Thanksgiving No. and the date 1899 below; the work is attributed to William Henry Walker and dated 1899.
