About this work
A pen and ink caricature shows a warship labeled Josephus D. under turbulent waves, with a large grape juice bottle on deck and buttermilk jugs stacked around it. Signs on the mast forbid theatre attendance, set lights out at 10 P.M. prohibit gum chewing, ban smoking, and forbid card playing and dancing, all marked J.D. Secretary Daniels stands at the stern holding a cane, and William Henry Walker's 1914 drawing satirizes naval temperance policy.
