About this work
A charcoal-style drawing shows a small, half-swamped boat labeled Autocracy flying a skull-and-crossbones flag, its crew struggling in churning waves. Above and to the right, a larger ship named Democracy looms with a crowd of onlookers on its deck and a draped female figure reaching across its rigging toward the struggling boat. The work is titled The darelict, by William Henry Walker, dated 1917.
