About this work
A pen-and-ink caricature shows a tall figure in a top hat and frock coat, seen from behind, pointing a pistol toward a line of small sailing vessels flying various national flags on the water. A sword rests on his shoulder and another is held at his side, and the words "Panama Canal" are lettered across the ground near his boots. The work is titled "The Colossus at Panama" by William Henry Walker, dated 1913.
