About this work
An ink drawing shows a stern white man in a wide-brimmed hat pointing sharply while holding a scroll labeled Lily-White Vote, with a kneeling Black man beside him and a scroll labeled Emancipation Proclamation on the ground. A faint, shadowy figure resembling Abraham Lincoln looms behind them against dense hatched shading. The work is signed by William Henry Walker and dated 1912, and is titled Shade of Abraham Lincoln.
