About this work
A pen and ink drawing shows a classical Greek court interior with a coffered ceiling and columns, where a nude female figure stands centrally while a robed man lifts a cloth around her. Rows of bearded, bandaged onlookers and seated judges fill the tiered benches, and a pedestal inscribed MAMMON stands before them. The work is titled Phryne before the Areopagus, by William Henry Walker, dated 1912.
