About this work
A pen-and-ink drawing by William Henry Walker, dated 1910, shows uniformed customs officers inspecting crates and goods in a warehouse while a crowd of women with upswept hair watches from the foreground. Above, a stage-like platform displays exaggerated caricature figures, including an elephant labeled G.O.P. and a large figure labeled Revision Downward, beside a sideshow-style banner. The work is titled Custom House Vaudeville and is held in the museum's print collection.
