About this work
This ink drawing by William Henry Walker, dated 1912, shows caricatured figures in Egyptian-style dress riding a chariot pulled by money-decorated horses, with a towering wave curling on the left. Soldiers with shields march below, while a figure with a raised staff and a distant procession of banner-carriers appear on the right, all rendered in dense hatched line work. The titled scene, Another Red Sea Episode, parodies the biblical crossing through satirical portraits and labels.
