About this work

A pen and ink drawing shows the nude figures of Adam and Eve stepping off a ferry boat marked Hell's Ferry Limited, holding fig leaves and an apple before a uniformed winged devil with a document. A sign reading Hell's Custom House hangs above the scene, and another demon pushes a hand truck in the foreground. William Henry Walker's 1908 print uses this satirical setting to present the biblical couple at the gate of Hell.
