About this work
This ink and wash drawing by William Henry Walker, dated 1898, shows a man in a dark suit and bow tie standing amid a crowd of women in large plumed and feathered hats. A radiant halo surrounds his head, and the women react with varied expressions, some animated and some apparently disputing or admiring him. A sign on a table reads 'Old Shoes Worn by Prof. Hornblower.'
