About this work

A man in a top hat and frock coat stands on a stone pedestal inscribed with WALL STREET, blowing bubbles from a pipe into the air. He rests his hand on a bowl labeled WATERED STOCK, and a crowd of men below reaches upward, hands outstretched, trying to catch the floating bubbles. This 1903 print by William Henry Walker uses the bubbles as a satirical image of inflated financial speculation.
