About this work
A pen and ink drawing shows a family of three standing in front of a thatched hut, with a water buffalo and chickens nearby amid dense tropical foliage. The man carries a spear and round shield and wears a wide-brimmed hat and a grass skirt, while the woman wears a patterned wrap and a headwrap and holds a small child by the hand. The work is signed and dated 1899 by William Henry Walker.
