About this work
A woodblock print in a flat, angular style shows a night street scene with a lattice tower, a lit lamp post, and a figure in a long coat and hat standing with their back to the viewer. Low modern buildings, a utility pole, a parked car, and a red-brown fence line the street under a dark sky. This work, titled Shinjuku at Night from the series Recollections of Tokyo, was made by Maekawa Senpan in 1945.
