About this work
An etched print shows a haloed saint in a brown habit kneeling in a rocky landscape beneath a large twisting tree, with a cliff rising at left and distant trees and hills receding at right. The inscription below reads "S. Franciscus" with the artist's signature "Callot fe." and the publisher's "Israel ex." The print is by Jacques Callot, dated ca. 1632, from the series Les Pénitents et Pénitentes.
