About this work
An oval etched print shows a mounted procession in which a fallen figure is struck down beneath a shaft of light breaking through the clouds, while horses rear and soldiers with banners advance across the scene. The Latin inscription at the top reads Conversio S. Pauli Apli, and the date 25 January appears at the bottom, identifying this as the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The print is by Jacques Callot from his series Images of All of the Saints and Feast Days of the Year, held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
