About this work

A Japanese woodblock print shows a festival procession on a sandy shore, with men carrying red paper lanterns on long poles and drummers in teal and red garments moving through the scene. Spectators gather on a grassy bank under pine trees and at the lower left beneath parasols, while a horseman rides at the right. The print is catalogued as Yoshida by Utagawa Hiroshige, ca. 1840, and is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
