About this work
This woodblock print shows a busy roadside scene centered on a large torii gate and a stone lantern beneath a pine tree at dusk. Travelers in kimono, a pack horse, and vendors crowd the street between wooden buildings, with a red banner in the upper right bearing the title Tokaido and the station number seven. The work is attributed to Utagawa Hiroshige and dated ca. 1840, and is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
