About this work

This woodblock print shows three travelers crossing a plank bridge over a shallow river, with a distant snow-capped Mount Fuji rising above green hills and pine trees. Stacked wooden frames and woven bamboo fences line the riverbank, and the Japanese inscriptions in the upper corners identify the station and the Tōkaidō road. The print is attributed to Utagawa Hiroshige, ca. 1842, and is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
