About this work

A woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, dated 1833, shows the post town of Kanbara under heavy snowfall at night. Snow blankets the thatched roofs, the surrounding hills and the road, where two travelers in conical hats and cloaks walk through the scene. The title Kanbara appears in calligraphy at upper right alongside a red seal.
