About this work

This Japanese woodblock triptych shows three kabuki actors in dramatic poses within interior settings with sliding screens. A man in a blue robe grips a drawn sword over a fallen figure, while a woman kneels in striped kimono at right, and another figure in blue stands at left. The print is attributed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi and dated 1848, held by the Library of Congress.

Print shows a scene from the play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura, with actors playing Igami no Gonta, his wife Kosen, the servant Kokingo, and another person.
