About this work

A colored woodblock print shows several laughing children in robes blowing into and painting the swollen, bare belly of the seated figure Hotei, who is depicted in a kneeling pose with a fan-like paper on the upper left. Red circular motifs and a brush decorate the large white belly, while a child in green plays nearby. The print is attributed to Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and dated 1882.
