About this work
A Japanese woodblock print shows a standing warrior in red and white robes and a sash, gripping a sword, at the bow of a dark boat advancing across a pale blue river at dusk. Several other boats with banners follow in the misty distance, beyond a line of dark trees and a rising yellow moon. This print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi is dated 1865 and held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
