About this work

A Japanese woodblock print shows a bride in a purple kimono turning away from a kneeling man in black, who clasps his hands in distress, while an older man in a patterned blue robe grips his head beside a lit candle stand. A column of Japanese text across the top carries the narrative, in keeping with the newspaper-style format of the series.
