About this work
A woman in a lavender kimono with red and blue crest patterns raises a blade above a man wading through a swirling river ford at dusk. Two birds take flight over the rushing water, while dark mountains and pink-blossomed branches frame the scene. This Japanese woodblock print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi is dated 1886 and held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
