About this work

A round-framed composition shows a courtesan in an elaborately patterned kimono and ornate hairpins beside a smaller attendant, set against a lattice fence and bare winter trees. Above them a black-roofed gate opens onto a lantern-lined street crowded with figures. A vertical inscription panel with calligraphy and a seal sit on the dark blue patterned ground. The print is attributed to Yashima Gakutei and dated 1820.
