Crucifixion, Albrecht Dürer (1512), Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Via artnap.com

Why is this public domain? The Los Angeles County Museum of Art lists this work as public domain.

About this work

An engraved print of the Crucifixion by Albrecht Dürer, dated 1512 in the lower left corner, shows Christ nailed to a cross with a crown of thorns and an INRI plaque above him. Grieving figures stand at the base of the cross, including a hooded woman with clasped hands and a young man in a long robe, while a helmeted soldier stands at the right and a skull lies at the foot of the cross. The fine parallel line work of the background and the drapery illustrates the density of the printmaking technique.
