Woodcut prints made Dürer's name across Europe while he was still in his twenties. He was born in Nuremberg in 1471 and learned drawing from his goldsmith father, then trained with the painter Michael Wolgemut. Two visits to Italy had a big effect on him, and he brought classical motifs and the nude into Northern art. From 1512 Emperor Maximilian I was his major patron. He never saw the animal in his rhinoceros woodcut, and he died in Nuremberg in 1528. Browse 1,157 works by Albrecht Dürer from 53 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
