About this work

A pen and ink etching shows two caricatured men facing each other, one leaping forward in a flared cloak while the other stands leaning on a cane with a hooked pipe-like object at his mouth. A low town skyline with a windmill, a church tower, and a sailing boat on calm water runs along the horizon. The work is signed J. Ensor and dated 1895, and its inscription reads Fridolin et Gragapança d'Yperdamme.
